The Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere is World Humanist Day. Sponsored by the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU), this worldwide celebration is about bringing awareness to the Humanist movement and its goal of creating a kinder, gentler world based upon mutual respect.
This event was conceptualized in the 1980s by the American Humanist Association (AHA), though the dates differ depending on the chapters. It was during the early 1990s that both IHEU and AHA decided to settle for a specific date and this is June 21.
